Mary from Mississippi

Betsy and Yuri sat next to Mary from Mississippi who was an extraordinary soul. She survived Hurricane Katrina and is the granddaughter of a man who was once a slave in Alabama. She continued with her story stating her son is now a Secret Service Agent living in Virginia. They were all in town to attend the Inauguration.

Yuri and Mary taught each other during the flight. They discussed cultural backgrounds (Mary, an African-American and Yuri a Korean-American) while folding Origami paper into cranes--a skill of Yuri's.

  1. What a wonderful example of what greatness our country can produce (considerate people who appreciate and celebrate our many differences)!
